While a large portion of Mt Tumbarumba is built around fast, effortless shuttle laps, Cowabunga offers a different kind of reward. Situated at the absolute highest point of the network, this short green trail requires a bit of extra legwork to reach, but the pristine wilderness scenery and smooth flow make it well worth the effort.
Earning the Summit Views at Trig Junction
Unlike the main gravity lines that pick up from the mid-station shuttle drop, Cowabunga is only accessible via pedal power. Starting your ride from the Trig junction means committing to a steady climb up Trigonometry, but it treats you to some of the finest alpine bush before you even clip into your pedals for the descent.
Because it sits out of reach of the regular shuttle loop, the trail surface often feels incredibly fresh and untamed compared to the high-traffic zones lower down the mountain. Just be mindful of those slick green berms in damp conditions.
Pure, Effortless Green Flow
Once you drop in, Cowabunga delivers a masterclass in accessible trail design. The gradient is mellow and completely non-intimidating, making it a perfect playground for beginners or a scenic, zero-stress cruise for experienced riders. The trail profile relies on smooth, sweeping corners and gentle rollers – and some that challenge the novice – that help you maintain your momentum without having to brake heavily or pedal aggressively.
It serves as the ultimate high-altitude connector, allowing you to establish a perfect “flow state” right from the summit before linking seamlessly into the intermediate trail network below.
Tips for Riding Cowabunga
-
Pace the Climb: Don’t burn all your energy on the climb up to the Trig junction. Keep a steady, spinning rhythm so you arrive at the top fresh enough to enjoy the descent.
-
Carry Your Speed: Because the trail is relatively flat, focus on pumping the rollers rather than braking in the corners to keep your momentum high.
-
Link It Up: Treat Cowabunga as the opening chapter of a massive top-to-bottom run. Use it to warm up your vision and tyres before dropping into the faster blue lines like Send It Express.
