Blue Derby in Tasmania is world-renowned for its exceptional mountain biking trails, and during our challenge to ride Derby in a day, we took on one of its most enjoyable green trails — Hazy Days. This trail ride started with something new: a freshly built log ride feature right at the start. It was a fun test of balance and control before we dropped into the smooth, flowing trail that followed.
After a tough crash earlier in the day, Dan needed a trail that was both gentle and confidence-building, and Hazy Days was the perfect choice. Despite its green rating, the Hazy Days trail at Blue Derby is full of character. It offers a mix of smooth flow, wide berms, and even a few small jumps towards the bottom. It’s ideal for beginners building skills, but also fun for experienced riders looking to relax and enjoy a playful descent.
From the top, the trail winds through beautiful Tasmanian forest, with features that encourage you to let off the brakes and trust the trail. The corners are smooth and supportive, and the lower section has just enough features to keep things interesting without feeling intimidating. For Dan, still feeling the after-effects of his earlier crash, it was the perfect way to ease back in and find his confidence.
We’re also proud to be wearing jerseys from Up Down Around Shuttles, who kindly supported our trip to Blue Derby with shuttle services and sponsorship. Their help made our Derby in a Day adventure possible.
If you’re visiting Blue Derby, make sure to check out UDA and Hazy Days — and don’t miss that new log ride feature at the start!
