Last Frontier is a long, demanding Black Diamond run at Mt Tumbarumba MTB Park that truly tests your stamina and bike handling. Dropping 173 metres of vertical elevation over a sustained 1.77-kilometre run, this trail blends raw, natural terrain with high-speed, steep gradients.
The trail demands attention right from the drop-in. Unlike the smoother flow lines in the park, Last Frontier embraces the mountain’s natural ruggedness. You will encounter off-camber rock gardens, loose granite surfaces, and fast, sweeping berms that transition quickly into steep, heavily rutted chutes. Line selection and modulation of your braking are critical here to maintain traction on the loose, dry dirt.
Because this trail sees a lot of raw water runoff, conditions can change rapidly. Riders should keep their eyes up and anticipate natural step-downs, washed-out sections, and exposed roots that add an extra layer of technicality to the descent.
An enduro bike with aggressive, high-grip tyres is highly recommended for tackling the square-edged hits and maintaining control down the steep -32% gradients. Focus on keeping your weight centred and braking early before the tight, natural corners.
