Victorian Enduro Series – My First Race at Mt Buller

Last weekend, I took on my first-ever Victorian Enduro Series round at Mt Buller, and it was one hell of a ride!

Dan and I arrived late on Saturday for practice, rolling in around 2 PM. Since we were self-shuttling, it didn’t really matter, but I quickly realized I was in for a tough weekend. The trails were dry and dusty, and I managed to crash in the exact same spot twice—both times hitting a deep divet that sent me over the bars. To make matters worse, my head stem wasn’t tightened properly, making handling sketchy.

Luckily, Mitch joined us for the weekend, helping with shuttle runs so we could get in more laps. We squeezed in two runs on Outlaw and Abom, plus a quick look at Clancy’s Run before grabbing a late dinner at the Kooroora Hotel. That night, we camped in Cornhill carpark, watching an epic sunset before getting some restless sleep. My crash injuries (and a mix of excitement and nerves) didn’t help!

Race day kicked off with four brutal stages:
🏁 Stage 1: International → Outlaw
🏁 Stage 2: Abom
🏁 Stage 3: Trigger Happy
🏁 Stage 4: Clancy’s Run

Having not ridden for five weeks and recently recovering from the flu, I was just aiming to finish. Despite the tough conditions, I ended up 5th out of 15 riders—a result I didn’t expect but was stoked with!

The Victorian Enduro Series at Mt Buller was a challenging but awesome experience. Now, I’m fired up to train harder and come back stronger for the next round!
