The Ultimate Test: Hitting Skyrabbit, Mogo’s Black Diamond Jumpline
Nothing quite prepares you for the reality of this Black Diamond trail.
Skyrabbit is not just a descent; it’s a world-class, progressive jump line, renowned as one of the most exciting gravity trails in Australia. It’s an absolute must-ride for intermediate and expert riders looking to send it and hone their airborne skills. The trail is packed into 1.2 thrilling kilometres of downhill-only goodness, featuring perfectly manicured hits, massive doubles, step-downs, and speed-carrying berms that demand commitment.
The features start fairly large and get progressively bigger, meaning a sighting run is essential to recognise the required speed and the appropriate lines. The constant rhythm and flow make you feel like you are on a gravity-fed theme park ride, rather than a natural trail.
Riding this on our Merida eONE-EIGHTY ebikes, generously provided by Ride Mogo for this series, added an interesting dynamic. While the downhill is purely gravity-driven, the ebikes made the return climb to the Wombat Soup Junction start point an absolute breeze. This allowed us to focus all our energy on dialling in the jumps and absorbing the impacts of the black-rated features, rather than being exhausted by the previous climb. We could perform multiple fast laps without the physical strain of a standard mountain bike, which is the perfect way to practise and master this challenging trail.
Skyrabbit is pure, unadulterated gravity riding. It’s a trail designed for hanging time, speed, and pushing your comfort zone. If you are looking for favourite jump trail in New South Wales, look no further. The incredible drainage built into the trail also means it holds up exceptionally well, ready to be utilised in a wide range of weather conditions.
We extend our huge thanks again to Ride Mogo for the sponsorship that made hitting multiple runs on this black gem possible.
