Thomas the Jank Engine is Narooma’s cheekiest black-diamond trail—short, awkward, and unapologetically raw. It’s built for those who love unpredictable terrain, awkward turns, and tight tech over smooth berms and big jumps. As the name suggests, this trail is all about jank—deliberate, technical weirdness designed to test your bike handling at low to mid speed.
Measuring around 400 metres in length, it drops roughly 50 metres through dense bushland and sneaky chutes. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in challenge. There are no warm-up rollers or comforting transitions here—just sharp corners, loose surfaces, narrow gaps and the occasional pedal catch if you get your line wrong.
Riders will need to stay light on the bike and alert on the brakes. Many corners are off-camber or have limited sightlines, so momentum management is key. There’s also a healthy mix of roots, awkward step-downs and switchbacks that require quick decision-making and commitment.
What to expect:
- Tight, techy lines through native bush
- Loose surfaces, awkward turns and janky features
- Minimal flow, maximum precision
- Short run time but high skill demand
Trail personality:
This is a trail for riders who enjoy quirky, slower-speed tech challenges. It’s a great one to session repeatedly if you want to improve balance, timing and your ability to adapt mid-run.
Rider suitability:
- Advanced riders with strong technical skills
- Ideal for those who love techy puzzles and tight terrain
- Not suitable for beginners or flow-focused riders
Ride tips:
Use it as a skills session—don’t expect speed, expect thinking. Ride it slowly at first to pick lines, then go back for a second run to clean it up. Great to pair with longer Gravity Zone trails for contrast.
