If you want to understand the sheer scale of Warburton Bike Park, you have to ride it from top to bottom. As shown in the video at the top of this post, I’ve linked together a massive chain of trails to create a near-continuous descent from the Stage 2 summit area all the way back to the valley floor. The only trail missing from this epic descent is Three Owls which you see in an upcoming release of Warburtron.
From Alpine Flow to Valley Gnar
This run begins with the rhythmic, high-country flow of Fubba Gubba, transitioning through the winding corridors of Onya Lyre and Runaway Bride. Each trail offers a slightly different flavour of the Yarra Valley forest, but the real sting in the tail arrives at the bottom.
Introducing Barefoot Wizard (Black Diamond)
To finish the run, I drop into Barefoot Wizard—a Stage 1 Black Diamond trail that I haven’t featured before. It provides a stark contrast to the Stage 2 flow; it’s raw, technical, and requires careful line choice to navigate the steep, rocky sections that lead you back into town. It is the ultimate test of focus after a long descent.
Tips for the Full Summit Run
-
Pace Your Energy: This is a long descent that can lead to arm pump and fatigue. Take a moment during the transitions to reset your grip.
-
Brake Management: On a run this long, your brakes will get a workout. Ensure your pads are in good condition before dropping in from the summit.
-
Focus for the Finish: Barefoot Wizard is the most technical part of this run and it comes at the very end. Save some mental energy for the final Black Diamond section or opt for some of the easier trails to finish.
