Three weeks after our Derby In a Day adventure, Dan and I headed to the Lake Mountain Gravity Enduro for Round 2 of the Victorian Gravity Enduro Series. This event brought a whole new set of challenges, with long race stages, rugged terrain, and fierce competition in the Masters 45–54 age group.

In the week leading up to the race, we focused our practice on the lower sections of the trail network. On official practice day, we shifted our attention to the top half, making the most of the day while saving energy for the tough race ahead.

Dan, still recovering from a hard crash at Derby, suited up in body armour for the first time—adding extra protection but also some extra weight and restriction. It was a calculated trade-off, but one that made each pedal stroke and corner just that bit tougher.

As for me, I was wrestling with noisy, underperforming brakes throughout practice. It was more than just annoying—it knocked my confidence on the descents. Thankfully, a late-afternoon fix on Saturday gave me just enough braking power to get through race day with a bit more control.

I’ve really grown to love the Gravity Enduro format—with its single timed race runs and relaxed transitions, it’s a great mix of competitive focus and social atmosphere.

With 26 riders in our category, many of them seriously fast, this five-stage course demanded full focus.

Whether you’re racing or just watching, Lake Mountain is an incredible place to ride. Check out how it all went down—and who came out on top—in this latest Sportilium race recap.
