So it’s taken me a little while to create the first official Sportilium blog post and I thought it would be best to base it on our most successful video on YouTube, the Red Hill Skills Park.

It was probably one of our first GoPro videos on the bike using a GoPro Hero 4.

Getting There

Tucked away in the back of Red Hill South the easiest way to explain how to get there is to follow Arthurs Seat Road from Dromana. On a sunny day the drive up Arthurs Seat is quite spectacular with beautiful Port Phillip Bay views. When you reach the summit you have the option of strolling around to see some of the sights and take pictures. It is quite touristy so can get pretty busy, so be warned.

Continue along Arthurs Seat Road until you get to the t-intersection at the end. You have two options for parking. There are a number of cafés to the right with parking out the front or you can turn left onto Shoreham /Red Hill Road and take an immediate left again onto Station Road. The Red Hill Skills Park can be accessed by following the rail trail to the left, behind the cafés or, if parking at Station Street, crossing Red Hill Road and following the timber yard cyclone fencing, the skills park is just through beyond the bush path.

What to Expect

As far as skills parks go, and we haven’t ridden that many, this one is pretty good as it has a number of features where you can practice your riding skills.

It includes a table top jump that follows straight into a boarded berm, followed by three more jumps, another gravel berm and a boardwalk which has a wide and narrow option. It’s all over in around a minute with a milder kids option for those less confident.

If you’re looking to build your or your kids BMX or mountain bike riding skills than Red Hill Skills Park is a great place to visit.
